This is a single disc affair, both a condensation of the recently issued box set, and an updating of the 1995 retrospective, Galore, providing the first major career collection for Kirsty's work.
21 tracks to sum up a 21 year career, from the debut single They don't know, to the new classic Sun on the water - incidentally the only track to appear in a different form to those on the 3-CD From Croydon to Cuba set, having been remixed by Kirsty's ex-husband Steve Lillywhite. All the other hits (and near-hits) are here too - A new England, Free world, Days, My affair ... songs that feature frequently on the airwaves. Everyone should hear more of that sublime voice.
Perhaps this TV-advertised collection - which was compiled in collaboration with Kirsty's mother Jean, who is still tirelessly campaigning (www.justiceforkirsty.org) - will prompt that airplay, as well as providing an essential collection (sic) for those who maybe found a box set too much, or just want a CD that sounds utterly sublime in the car, or cranked up to share with the neighbours.
Frankly, even if you already have From Croydon to Cuba, this set is a worthy addition. Think of it as the edited highlights ... and what highlights they are.
