This
is a lost masterpiece, with highs in Soho Square, Can't
stop killing you, Angel, Bad and
the title track. It's certainly emotionally charged, and was largely penned
by Kirsty with
Mark Nevin, both of them were undergoing traumatic times in
their personal lives, and Nevin later described the recording as their "paddle".
The album's sound is more sparse, more sophisticated and often riveting.
The partying Latin rhythms and instrumentation of the previous album are absent,
and instead the emotional intensity comes across, borne by increasingly well
written songs and, with the exception of Big
Boy on a Saturday night which sits uneasily in its midst, it's a collection
which builds beautifully then drifts gently away to lick its wounds.
Reissed in 2005 with bonus tracks.
Reviews: "In a way, it's her own Pet Sounds." Pause & Play
