In which the wry, permaglum songstress lets loose her Latin side and makes the best album of her career. Tropical Brainstorm is funny, clever and sexy - the things MacColl has always been at her best - but the world rhythms give her sound a warmth that was often lacking before. Many of the songs are about travel, something MacColl has been doing a lot, but they explore the loneliness of travelling as much as its thrills. Authumngirlsoup has her "crying over London with a heart on fire but noone home", while Us Amazonians, which fantasises about jungle life, is bittersweet. Other songs are straightforwardly funny - Here comes that man again may be the first song ever written about logging on to a Dutch porn website. I just can't help looking, purrs MacColl, before doing a delicious Primal Scream parody, "Sha la la la la get your rocks off baby" she trills. Brilliant.
